The Guardian is mostly sensible, but does have quite a strong contingent of readers on what we might call the "fantasy-left". People with reasonable views on many things but who haven't quite grasped supply and demand functions. Supermarkets are one of their favourite targets.
I am a bit surprised that the former head of the OFT is involved, though - the OFT is a very economically literate organisation nowadays (though it's been ten years since he left).
Thanks. When I saw that, I thought maybe it was a poorly chosen headline on an article about some serious issues. But the article turned out to be as silly as the headline.
